You cannot allow car batteries to become exposed to temperatures that are either too hot or too cold if you don't want to risk them becoming damaged. They can literally become useless to you if you leave them in conditions that expose them to this risk.

Batteries that are too hot get corroded from the inside. The chemicals get overheated and start to lose their effectiveness. It is even possible for chemicals to leak out or even for a battery to explode if the circumstances are just right.

A battery that gets too cold can freeze up on you and be rendered useless. You don't want to see that happen either because it will mean that you have to fork over money for yet another new battery. Make sure you avoid having your batteries exposed to temperatures that are outside of the normal range of what you might expect in a typical climate.
